How much does a steel plate weigh?
Multiply length × width × thickness (all in inches) for the volume, then by 0.2836 for steel. A 48 × 12 × 0.25 inch steel plate weighs about 40.8 pounds.
Does the alloy change the weight?
Slightly. The densities here are nominal for common alloys — specific grades and tempers of aluminum or stainless vary a little. For a critical order, confirm against the mill certificate.
